Today was our first full day in Auckland. The weather is
still rainy and overcast but I am hoping tomorrow will be better. We went back
to the New Zealand War Museum and took a tour. The museum focuses on the local
Moari culture which is actually quite interesting. We attended a cultural
performance where traditional songs, chants, and fighting techniques were
performed which really allowed us to grasp the Maori culture. I hope the
pictures and videos below will show you a little bit.
After, Anoop took up to 2 degrees mobile to get our sim
cards for our phones. Apparently Vodafone is more expensive here, although all
the calling plans are ridiculously priced. It costs us 22 cents a minute to cal
each other and almost 50 cents to call the US. This is quite different from our
great Vodafone plan we have in Australia. Anyhow, we are only here for a week
so we will manage.
We ate lunch down on Queen Street, which seems to be the
main drive through the city and the location for a lot of the nice shopping.
The group found an awesome pub that served one of the best Reuben sandwiches I
have ever had. We walked around
for a little while to get our directional bearings about us.
A really cool tree one the way to the museum.
The outside of the newly renovated museum.
The view of the sky tower (central downtown) from the museum.
Memorial fountain.
Walking paths thru the park.
A model Maori worship structure inside the museum.
